Who Should Attend? 

  • Providers who create clinical documentation (MD/DO/PA/NP) and have primary responsibility for capturing documentation necessary to support billed charges.
  • Nurse/Quality Managers who manage people and policies related to voluntary or contractually-required reporting of data via CPT, HCPCS-II, and ICD-10-CM codes, and who serve as a link between the clinical and business staff.
  • Coders/billers who do not have experience in measuring and reporting key quality metrics via UDS, HEDIS, HCC, and internal ACO requirements related to educating providers on proper code usage.
  • Informatics and staff responsible for quality of care data within the EHR.

Day 1 Agenda July 13, 2020

8:30am - 12:30pm (CST) Evaluation & Management  -The Evaluation and Management (E&M) curriculum is designed to assist with the  development and mastery of the necessary skill set to successfully report and audit E&M services. This education and training is designed to promote compliance and minimize the risk associated with post-payment review and 3rd party audit exposure. There will be a heavy focus on the proper reporting of outpatient E&M services (e.g., 99201-99215) but we will also cover various preventive services and proper reporting of E&M services to Medicare during the COVID-19 pandemic and public health emergency.

1:00pm -2:30pm (CST) Documentation Best Practice: The Key Driver of Charge Capture: Impact of Clinical Documentation; Medical Necessity; Common Physician Documentation Concerns; Key Elements for E&M Levels; New vs. Established Patients; Provider Queries; Value of Audits


Day 2 Agenda July 14, 2020

8:30am - 12:30pm (CST) - Reporting Quality & Care Management - Introduction to reporting quality and chronic disease management; Roles and staffing responsibilities for quality reporting; Basics of HEDIS, HCC, ACO Shared Savings, and Risk Adjusted Coding; Where can diagnoses be pulled from in an encounter note?; Overview of CPT Category II codes and ways to increase revenue; Deep review of the ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding & Reporting; Balancing clinical care and quality reporting requirements

1:00pm - 2:30pm - Basics to HEDIS - Establish baseline knowledge of five domains of HEDIS measures; Create gap analysis tool to meet each metric pertinent to organization; Identify areas of opportunity for metric gap closure; Develop one workflow redesign to enhance measure capture.

2:45pm - 4:00pm Denials Overview & Resolution Strategies -  Overview of Different Denial Types; Denial Reporting & Prevention; Prioritizing & Planning for Denial Work; Working Common Denials


Required Class Materials - Copy of slides will be emailed with login instructions the day before class date. 

  • 2020 CPT manual (AMA’s Professional Edition strongly recommended)
