Who Should Attend? - The priority of organizations for the sessions are: RHCs, Substance Use Disorder Clinics, and Community Mental Health organizations. Particularly, RHCs have unique billing challenges that will be a focus of the session since the often have to bill using different claim forms and receive different types of payments from Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurers.

  • All clinical staff members who document in medical records.
  • Appropriate administrative, practice managers, medical directors, program/grant staff who manage people, processes, and/or technologies related to the revenue cycle.
  • Revenue cycle staff (i.e. coders and billers)

Course Overview - We anticipate the course duration to be 4 hours which allows for ample time to review the following:

  • Integrating and managing primary care and behavioral health services for SUD/OUD.
  • Overview of the opportunities and challenges associated with variable reimbursement mechanisms, including coding and billing for Medicare, managed care, Medicaid, and other third-party payors.
  • Clinical documentation challenges and opportunities.
  • Compare and contrast diagnostic terms used in the DSM-V versus the ICD-10-CM.
  • Documentation, coding, and billing for MAT services.
  • Capturing and reporting of non-face-to-face services including telehealth, virtual communication services, online digital visits, Behavioral Health Integration (BHI), and the Psychiatric Collaborative Care Model (Psych CoCM).

Integrating Primary Care and Behavioral Health Services + the Foundations of SUD/OUD Coding/Billing

  • Delineate the basic rules and regulations that guide fee for service billing and coding for behavioral health integration (BHI).
  • Identify key resources for tracking changes in coding and/or billing.
  • Identify some of the alternative methods of reimbursement or calculating “value” beyond basic fee for service billing.
  • List key steps managers and leaders can take in creating and sustaining a business model that aligns with the clinical model for BHI.

Screening for Substance/Opioid Use Disorders + Induction, Stabilization, and Maintenance of MAT

  • Tools to identify and screen individuals who are at risk of SUD/OUD (ex. SBIRT).
  • MAT Pre-Induction Visit, Induction Visit, and Stabilization/Maintenance Visits.
  • Administrative requirement for obtaining DATA 2000 waiver and recent updates!
  • Understanding Medicaid H-code options for SUD/OUD/MAT treatments.
  • Tracking and reporting patients with SUD/OUD who also have additional associated conditions (ex. HIV, endocarditis, viral hepatitis) and are "PWID" (people who inject drugs).
  • Overview of the ICD-10-CM’s “Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting”

Mental/Behavioral Health Integration and Treatment Services and Telehealth/Virtual Visits

  • Counseling and coordination of services with MAT BHPs.
  • Proper documentation for psychiatric diagnostic evaluative services, health assessments, and psychotherapy.
  • Limitations and opportunities related to reporting group therapy.
  • Capturing clinical staff time in between visits for Behavioral Health Integration and the Psychiatric Collaborative Care Model.
  • Transitional Care Management, telehealth, online digital E/M,  and virtual visits.
